Dr. Lakshinie Gunasiri, Paediatrician, Life Skill Development Coach based in Melbourne, Australia founder Prowess Coaching and director of Beyond Childhood International, an international nongovernmental organization working on education, health and economic empowerment of vulnerable children and communities conducted a session on Dealing with Child Behavioural Problems and Learning difficulties for the staff of Department of Probation and Childcare Services on 08th of January 2024 at Ranmuthugala Certified School.

This program was organised and facilitated by Lawyers for Human Rights and Development in collaboration with the Department of Probation and Childcare Services – Western Province with an aim of developing a plan to care for psychological needs of children living under institutional care under its Longitudinal research/action initiative for Children Deprived of their Liberty in Sri Lanka. Dr. Lakshinie Gunasiri presented how international best practices can be involved in the efficiency of services. The program focused on on addressing the challenges faced by children with neurodevelopmental disorders in children includesuch as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, learning disabilities, intellectual disability, conduct disorders etc in children living in institutional settings and tackling psychological issues encountered by those children. The session was highly interactive, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and strategies among the participants.

The program focused on creating a roadmap for goal achievement, fostering a proactive mindset among participants. Dr. Lakshinie Gunasiri's expertise in life skill development and paediatrics provided a holistic approach, guiding individuals to set meaningful goals that align with their personal and professional aspirations that will indirectly benefit the children living under their care and protection.
