BCI Connecting Through Creativity and Healing

Supporting healing and inclusion through the arts

Overview

Hosted under the Heal and Lead Center, this program uses creative expression—visual arts, music, dance, and drama—to promote psychosocial healing, inclusion, and cultural exchange. It connects institutionalized and marginalized youth in Sri Lanka with global artists, educators, and youth communities.

Objectives & Approach

• Conduct psychological assessments to tailor trauma-informed arts programming
• Create safe spaces for children (ages 2–16+) to explore creativity
• Include children with special needs in inclusive art-based therapy
• Encourage global thinking through virtual cultural exchanges
• Engage local communities, educators, and caregivers in healing practices

Challenges & Solutions

Children in care often lack access to mental health and creative outlets. This program bridges that gap with inclusive, art-based healing aligned with international child development standards.

Impact

• Over 1,200 children reached across institutional and rural settings
• International showcases hosted in collaboration with partners in Australia
• Positive emotional regulation and confidence building recorded in post-program assessments
